Important: Failing to follow these steps in this specific order may lead to data loss!
On the existing database server:
- Cease all work in the current database.
- Disable the ClientBase Database Sync scheduled task (Applies only to agencies that synchronize with ClientBase Online, ClientBase Marketing Services, or branch locations):
- To verify, click Start > Search > Task Scheduler.
- Look for Trams Sync or any scheduled task that says “Sync”.
- Right-click on the scheduled task and select Disable.
- Using the Trams Database Backup Restore utility, perform a backup of the database. Instructions for backing up your database are in the TBO Help File.
- Once the task is completed, stop the Interbase Services:
- Click Start > Search > Services.
- Look for the Interbase Guardian service, right-click on it, and select Stop
- Once the you stop the Guardian service, the Interbase Server service, will stop automatically
- Save a copy of the admin.ib file. This file holds the encrypted user login passwords.
- If this step is skipped, each user login’s password will need to be re-entered on the new computer.
- For IB version VI-V12.x and higher, the file is located at C:\ProgramData\Embarcadero\gds_db\admin.ib
- For older versions, the users’ passwords will need to be re-keyed after restoring the database.
- Note the path to the interface download folder (Applies only to agencies that interface from a GDS):
- Click on Interface > Download.
- Path is shown next to PNR File Path.
- Backup custom Report Generator and TCR reports:
- Most are in Shared Documents > Trams > Reports
- TCR reports may be in different location
On the new computer
- Download install the application. Link to Download File: https://static.trams.com/tramslibrary/Releaseandupdatefiles/Updates/40900/setup.exe
- Note: You will need the agency’s serial numbers and access codes for the applications. If you don’t know the numbers, contact support@trestechnolgies.com.
- The downloaded file is a single installation file that includes Interbase, Trams Back Office, and ClientBase Windows.
- Instructions for installing the applications are in the Online Help Center: Trams Back Office and ClientBase Windows Server and Workstation Installation.

NOTE: Choose the option to install the server, not workstation.
- Restore the database backed-up on the old computer:
- Click on Start > Database Backup Restore.
- Select the TRAMS database alias.
- Enter the SYSDBA username and password.
- Leave the server username and password blank.
- Select the Restore Tab.
- Select the database backup file by clicking on the folder icon next to Restore From.
- Leave the remaining options at their default.
- Click Restore Now!
- Using Windows File Manager, navigate to C:\ProgramData\Embarcadero\gds_db
- Rename the existing admin.ib file to admin.ib.old.
- Copy the admin.ib file saved earlier to this folder.
- Log into TBO and CBW using a manager-level login.
- If you did not copy the admin.ib file from your old server, or your previous server used a version of Interbase before WI-V11.x, you will need to log in as SYSDBA and create a new manager-level login.
- The popup screen will tell you what needs to be done, simply follow the prompts as instructed.
- Copy your backed-up Report Generator files to the public (shared) documents folder.
- If there are workstations, configure their Alias to point to the new computer.
- If the agency is subscribed to Client Base Online, Client Base Marketing Services, or uses Branch Sync, join a live sync support session from the new server or machine to transfer the sync scheduled task.
- Visit https://trestechnologieshelp.zendesk.com, and click the red chat button.
- Enter your contact information and select the Sync department.
